Back to the Motherland…
We recently arrived back in South Africa for our furlough which is actually only due in September, but because of many factors it seemed to make more sense to plan it while the Logos Hope was in dry-dock and lay-up. It has been great to again meet-up with family whom we have not seen in almost 2 years and to also (for the 1st time) meet the 3 new additions to the family. We were fortunate to just make it in time to attend our new niece’s dedication service (see picture below with Brian’s sister Brenda and her daughter Layla). We hope to meet-up with many friends and supporters during our time here and to be able to give feedback and to further work on our support. Your prayers for this time back home would be very much appreciated !

Logos Hope…
Our journey in missions has taken us back to OM Ships, but this time on board Logos Hope, which is OM’s new ship, currently in Trogir, Croatia where major works are being completed before she sails to an outfit port. It was not easy to leave South Africa after the amazing time we spent there with Brian’s family and working with the AIDS Hope team, but we knew God was calling us back to the Ships Ministry. Brian was asked to lead one of the divisions on board called “Partner Ministries”; its main focus is on serving our partners who make this minsitry possible through their prayers, their service and financial support… Our vision is to see the Ministry of OM Ships prayed for, fully staffed and fully resourced. Miriam is also part of this division, specifically involved in the Guest Relations/ Hospitality team… Please pray for Brian in his leadership role (he will also be part of the Logos Hope Leadership team which consists of 6 directors) and for Miriam as she also leads her team. We are really looking forward to the day that you will be able to come visit us onboard….

Sink or Swim…
Miriam and I recently had to renew our BST (Basic Safety Training) certification. We had to do a First Aid course, Basic Fire fighting and safety at sea which also meant having a practical day at a pool where we do some exercises such as jumping of a diving board with a lifejacket on (Miriam’s picture), life raft training etc.

A Real Celebration…
We PRAISE GOD for all the work been done onboard and that we are able to see so much progress – especially to our dining room (see picture below). We recently celebrated the “grand opening” of our newly refurbished dining room. This was a special occasion for the crew onboard who has been used to eating off temporary made press wood tables. It is also wonderful to see the progress made on deck 4 flooring which is almost complete.

Logos Hope Arrival in Kiel, Germany.
It seemed almost unreal for us to see the Logos Hope sail into Kiel after waiting for almost 14 months for her arrival. It was quiet an emotional experience and yet a GREAT celebration at the same time. God has been so good to us and we were once again humbled by His faithfulness.

Logos Hope Sets Sail…
8 November, 2007: Logos Hope has begun the 16 day voyage to Kiel, Germany. It was an emotional and joyful experience to finally see the ship pull away from the berth that was ‘home’ for Logos Hope for the past 28 months! As Logos Hope sails, there are still many challenges ahead. Our hearts and lives are full of thankfulness and praise – even though there is still a lot of work to be done to complete the project. The ship is expected to arrive in Kiel after a 16 day voyage where the outfit phase is expected to begin. We have come a very long way – but the project is not finished! Upon arrival in Kiel the community of Logos II will merge with the team already onboard and the Logos Hope community will begin to take shape. During the outfit phase we expect ministry to begin, especially focussing on our partners.

Praise God for:
- The opportunities we have to be a blessing and a witness for Him here in Germany.
- Each one of our partners/ supporters who pray, give, encourage us and make it possible for us to serve in missions.
- The Logos Hope being in Kiel, Germany.
Pray for:
- The Logos Hope Community as it adapts to the transition and merging of 2 communities.
- The needed manpower/ finance to complete the works and to see the ship sail into active ministry.
