Every morning, between 5:30 and 6:00 we are woken up by the sweetest sound of all: Michelle singing or talking to herself Her sweet and small voice brings so much joy every day!

Michelle loves the outdoors, climbing, chasing the rabbit and 2 chickens we got in the base, as well as being the centre of attention and the recipient of many compliments every day. She also loves shoes, clothes and having her hair done…

But not all is fun and laughter, she has the mammoth task of learning three languages at the same time: Mom speaks to her in Spanish, Daddy in Afrikaans and the rest of the people on the base, English. She already says a few words in all three, but our favourite is when, after every prayer we have, does not matter with whom or where we are, she says a very sound and loud “AMEN!” then we know that when all eyes are opened everybody will have a big smile in their face

Cada mañana, entre las 5:30 y 6:00, nos despertamos al oir el sonido más dulce de todos: Michelle cantando o hablando consigo misma; su dulce vocecita nos trae mucha alegría cada mañana.

A ella le encanta esta afuera en el jardín, trepando cada cosa que puede, persiguiendo al conejo y a los dos pollitos que corren en el patio y por supuesto, también le fascina recibir cariñitos y atención, mucha atención. Le encantan sus zapatitios, su ropita y estar bien peinadita…

Pero no todo es juego y sonrisitas; ella tiene la tarea gigantesca de aprender 3 idiomas: mamá le habla en Español, papá en Afrikaans y la gente con la que trabajamos, en Inglés. Michelle ya dice algunas palabras en los tres idiomas, pero nuestra palabra favorita, es cuando después de cada oración, donde sea que estemos, ella dice firmemente “AMEN!”, y sabemos que cuando abramos los ojos, todo el mundo va a estar sonriendo y haciendo cariñitos a Michelle

2010 was a special year for us, being in South Africa during the Soccer World Cup was very exciting and working with the MDT -Missions Discipling Training- has been one of the highlights of our time in missions.  We have seen 97 people go through our programme, (50% of which are or will be serving either in foreign missions, back to working with their church and others to Bible school; about 40% are going back to university and the rest to a secular job, but with a Kingdom perspective) they have grown so much in their walk with God; others being called to missions when did not have an idea of where to serve; for others, God open a different door than what they had planned for their lives; and for some of them the realisation that foreign missions is not for them was a big step.

It has not been an easy journey to commit to, but seeing how God is using this ministry for His glory it’s very humbling and exciting to be a part of.

El Primer Año Sirviendo en Sudáfrica

El 2010 fue un año muy especial para nosotros, con la emoción de la Copa Mundial de Futbol aquí en Sudá y dirigiendo elprograma de Entrenamiento para Misiones y Discipulado, se nos pasó el año volando y viendo los resultados de este programa, ha sido una bendición y uno de los logros más importantes que hemos visto en nuestro tiempo en misiones.

El año pasado tuvimos 97 estudiantes en dos grupos de 6 meses, 6 viajes misioneros en distintos lugares del país, muchas almas evangelizadas y gente que entregaron su vida al Señor. Aproximadamente el 50% de los estudiantes siguieron involucrados en misiones a corto o largo plazo, trabajando con su iglesia local o en algún instituto Bíblico; cerca del 40% van a estudiar una carrera y el resto a trabajar, pero con el enfoque en el Reino de Dios. Algunos recibieron un llamado misionero haciendo el entrenamiento, otros claridad en cuanto a dónde debían ir y otros se dieron cuenta de que misiones no es para ellos, lo cual es una decisión muy difícil de tomar.

La jornada no ha sido fácil, pero viendo cómo Dios usa este ministerio para transformar las vidas de los que se disponen, es una satisfacción y privilegio muy grandes y el ser parte de esto nos bendice y alienta a continuar sirviendo a nuestro Dios.

As I hold my small little Michelle in the palm of my hands I find it difficult to comprehend that Jesus himself was once a small, vulnerable,  little baby… Amazing that He would choose to become one of us in order to redeem us… As we look forward to Christmas I know celebrating it with our baby will give us a whole new perspective and make the fact that Christ became man so much more real to us…

Difícil de imaginar…

Sosteniendo a mi pequeña Michelle entre mis manos, se me hace difícil comprender que Jesús también fue un pequeño, indefenso y vulnerable bebé. Solo un milagro de amor de parte de Dios permitió que su hijo Jesús naciera como un simple humano y viviera entre nosotros para redimirnos!

Para nosotros el significado de la Navidad se ha hecho más real y profundo desde que nació Michelle. Gracias Dios por este milagro de amor!

From the moment he held her it was obvious that she had stolen his heart and that there was a special bond between them… She is “daddy’s girl” and will be treasured as a gift from God as she is…

La consentida de Papá!

Desde el primer momento en que Brian la tomó en sus brazos, ella le robó el corazón y hubo un momento “mágico”, especial entre los dos… Ella es la consentida de papá y será atesorada como ese precioso regalo de Dios que es!

This photo was taken minutes after she was born and words cannot express the joy felt as we held her in our arms the first time…

Michelle is doing well and mom and dad are adjusting to the responsibilities of parenting and trying to cope with a lack of sleep…

We want to give God the PRAISE for this new life and we will really appreciate your prayers for us and our baby girl !

Michelle means: French- Gift from God/ Hebrew- Close to God.

Bienvenida al mundo!

Con mucha alegría les anunciamos la lleaga a este mundo de Michelle Alisa Esterhuizen Orozco, el viernes 30 de Octubre del 2009.

Esta foto fue tomada unos minutos después de que Michelle naciera, no tenemos sufucuentes palabras para expresar el gozo de tenerla en nuestros brazos por primera vez!

Gracias a Dios por este regalo tan bello que nos ha dado y les pedimos que oren por Michelle, que ella llegue a ser la persona que glorifique y ame a Dios.

What to Expect when You’re Expecting is an excellent book and Brian especially is learning A LOT… It is becoming a regular routine now that Miriam will explain to Brian (usually at night just before we go to sleep) in detail how the baby is developing at every stage of the devlopment process. Brian is learning about strange concepts like: “Sympathy Symptoms” which he finds very strange and difficult to understand… Please pray for understanding from Brian and patience for Miriam…

Wow, what a wonderful and unique experience… Over the years serving with OM Ships we have heard many people who have visited the Faroe Islands before share about how special it was and now we finally got to experience it for ourselves… AND they were right !!!

We had an incredible time meeting many wonderful people, enjoying the breathtaking scenery and making friends. God has obviously blessed this small nation and is using it to be a blessing and a shining light to the world.

Islas Faroes: Una experiencia única y maravillosa! En los años que tenemos sirviendo con OM hemos escuchado mucho acerca de esta tierra de ensueño y GAD tuvimos la oportunidad de poder visitarla!

Fue un tiempo muy especial, conociendo gente comprometida a servir y ministrar! Es una nación muy pequeña, pero comprometida a impactar el resto de los países europeos y el mundo.

Edinburgh Castle and the park in the picture behind us was the venue for a live easter play that thousands of people attended. It was very touching to see so many people gripped by the live scenes that unfolded in front of their eyes… It was quiet emotional to witness especially the crucifixion and resurrection scenes.

We had a wonderful time in the Netherlands and even though these were our first “real” ministry ports we PRAISE GOD for the incredible opportunities we had to share God’s love and encourage local believers. Many lives were impacted and it again proved that God can use us even when we feel weak and inexperienced.
